Environment Society of Oman

The Oman Whale and Dolphin Research Group operates under the newly formed Environment Society of Oman. Here is some more information about this society:

Oman is a beautiful country, blessed with unique habitats and landscapes, ranging from pristine beaches and coral reefs and to high mountains and breathtaking desert sands. The Environment Society of Oman (ESO) is a non-governmental society which aims to help conserve Oman's natural heritage and raise awareness about environmental issues. Our aims include:

Publication of educational and awareness-raising materials for the general public;

Organization of participatory events to allow the public to become actively involved in conservation activities;

Providing a forum for exchange of ideas and information related to the environment in Oman;

Fostering cooperation between scientific, educational, public and government organizations to promote conservation of both marine and terrestrial habitats in Oman.

Active research about many aspects of Oman's environment to help provide the necessary information for conservation and education initiatives

The ESO was founded in March 2004 by Omanis representing different regions and many different professional backgrounds. Membership is open to anyone above the age of 18 who has an interest in conserving the environment and ensuring that Oman's natural heritage remains intact for future generations to enjoy.

Activities and membership benefits

The ESO encourages active involvement of members of all ages and all walks of life. Activities and benefits for members include:

Participation in hands-on projects and awareness-raising campaigns to reduce litter, recycle waste, and help keep our environment clean.

Presentations for schools and community groups on environmental issues, including wildlife conservation and research.

Access to a website with news updates regarding the society's activities, tips for conserving the environment, informational articles, and links to other websites related to conservation and environmental issues.

Members will be supporting realistic and worthwhile environmental projects in Oman run by ESO, with all membership funds going directly to identified causes.
